Biomethane, “is a biogas which has been upgraded to a quality similar to fossil natural gas and having a methane concentration of 90% or greater”.
Biomethane can be injected directly to the existing natural gas pipeline or compressed until reaching pressure 200 Bar in the CNG tube and is called Compressed Biomethane Gas or CBG.
BIOMETHANE PROCESS
Upgrading Technology:
- Common technology used for biogas upgrading are pressure-swing adsorption, water scrubbing and membrane separation
- Membrane system is suitable for small scale plant because of its modularity and low maintenance cost
- The first Bio-CNG plant in Indonesia use membrane separation to upgrade the biogas.
BIOMETHANE Pathway
Supply
Biomethane plant include biogas plant, biogas upgrading and compression facility.
Transport
Consist of gas transport module (GTM) and gas grid. For vehicle fuel, it is assumed that the target market only for plantation truck in the same location with biomethane plant, so no need transport.
Target Market
Each pathway have specific target market. Gas grid injection have the same target market as the other pathway, however the business model will be different.
